Pickleball is a sport that has been gaining popularity in recent years and for good reason. It’s a fun and easy-to-learn game that can be played by people of all ages and skill levels. One of the most important aspects of pickleball is the court on which it is played.
So, what is pickleball?
Pickleball is a paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping pong. It is played on a court that is similar in size to a badminton court but with a lower net and different lines. The game is played with a plastic ball, similar in size to a wiffle ball, and paddles that are similar to those used in ping pong.
The objective of pickleball is to hit the ball over the net and into the opponent’s court, with the goal of scoring points by making the ball land inbounds and out of reach of the opposing player.
The Courts
Pickleball courts can be found in a variety of settings, including community centers, parks, and private clubs. They can be indoors, or outdoors and can be made of a variety of surfaces, including asphalt, synthetic materials, or wood.
The standard size for a pickleball court is 20 feet wide by 44 feet long. The court is divided into two halves, with a net that is 36 inches high at the sidelines and 34 inches high at the center. The court also has a non-volley zone, also known as the kitchen, which is a 7-foot area on either side of the net where players are not allowed to hit the ball in the air.
The lines on a pickleball court are similar to those on a tennis court, with a center line dividing the court in half and service boxes on either side of the net. The service boxes are ten feet deep and twenty feet wide and are used for serving the ball at the beginning of each point.
The surface of the court can vary depending on the location and the materials used. Asphalt is the most common surface for outdoor courts, while wood or synthetic materials may be used for indoor courts.
